kind of a sauna

Kind of a Sauna is a project in process that began as a plan to create a faux-sauna in my back yard as a queer meeting space. It is now a project of creating a real sauna as a place for isolation (due to Covid-19). The project arose after working in Copenhagen where artists are paid living wages and most have access to saunas. I immediately wanted to build one of my own, but despaired at the cost of building and realities of being an artist under Capitalism in the US.

However, once I returned home I was amazed at the collective care and knowledge of my queer and trans community and a mock-sauna installation has become a plan to create a real sauna as a shared resource.

These self portrait were taken on the day I lost taste and smell due to Covid-19.
